Breathing is an important aspect of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 5000 years ago, Huang Ti said: "Health results when breathing and blood flow are in harmony - disease results from their disharmony." The harmony that Huang Ti is referring to results from slow, deep, "coherent" respiration, which Huang Ti says results in "a healthy balanced person". Huang Ti goes on to say that "a healthy balanced person is not affected by disease." The below figure demonstrates the synchrony of breathing and blood flow as observed in the ear lobe for 5 cycles of Coherent Breathing.

We are pleased to offer the services of Stephen Elliott, biofeedback practitioner and developer of the breathing method known as Coherent Breathing. Stephen is the principal author of The New Science of Breath and Coherent Breathing - The Definitive Method is credited with many recent advancements in the science and understanding of respiration, blood flow, and autonomic nervous system regulation. Stephen employs multiple forms of biofeedback to reinforce a client's comprehension and speed understanding of the mind/body/breathing connection.

Breathing is central to health as it promotes healthful circulation and its result, autonomic nervous system balance.

Coherent Breathing involves finding and breathing at an optimal rhythm and depth. At this rhythm and depth, blood flow synchronizes with respiration, the body naturally relaxes, blood vessels open, and blood flow naturally increases. However, because the muscles of respiration are doing the work, the heart and vascular system can relax, and when they do, the entire nervous system relaxes.
This "internal relaxation" often yields dramatic changes in short term mental and physical comfort. Over the long run, it yields major gains in health, well-being, and performance.
Stephen also instructs Wuji Breathing and other traditional Chinese exercises for health and longevity. See www.chiarts.net
